Please Note:  PURPLE & BLUE trash bags are now available at Foodtown in addition to Kings Supermarket in Hillsdale & Ridgewood. Rite Aid is also now carrying the purple bags.


DMF YARD /Debris Drop Off - Anything eligible for pickup can be brought to the D.M.F. Yard on Hudson Ave. on Tuesdays between 7:00AM and 3:00PM, and Saturdays from 9:00AM - 1:00PM April through September except: 4/5, 6/7,7/12,8/12 & 9/3. Branches and limbs may be brought to the yard in containers or tied in bundles, no plastic bags.

*Please note an Ecology Permit (DMF sticker) is needed for use of depositing garden debris and other light non- hazardous household debris.  A one- time $10.00 fee is required.  You may purchase a permit by visiting the Clerk’s office in person or printing the form (click here) and mailing it along with your payment to the Clerk.

2016 HOUSEHOLD, GARDEN DEBRIS, AND COLLECTION PROGRAM

APRIL 4 THROUGH OCTOBER 21

The Township is pleased to provide a household, garden, debris and grass collection program for residents through curbside collection and by drop off to the DMF Yard as reflected below. It does not include garbage, recyclable matetrials, and hazardous materials. 

     CURBSIDE – EVERY WEEK

  1. Grass and garden debris will be picked up at the curb each week in covered containers no larger than 32 gallons OR biodegradable bags.  Containers cannot weigh more than 50 lbs.  NO boxes, plastic boxes, containers without a lid, or plastic containers exceeding 50 lbs. may be used.
  2. Branches and limbs up to 4 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length in bundles neatly stacked and tied.  NO LOGS. 
      CURBSIDE – ONCE A MONTH
  1. HOUSEHOLD debris up to 10 unbagged, oversized items, such as furniture on the following dates.  NO construction materials, household trash, electronics, recyclables or hazardous materials. Please note you may click on each Zone to view the corresponding map.

WHITE GOODS other than ELECTRONICS* Refrigerators, Washers, Dryers, Water Heaters, Barbeque Grills, Air Conditioners, etc. will be picked up once a month by request to the DMF.  Please do not put at the curb until a request is made and scheduled.
 
*ELECTRONICS must be brought to the DMF Yard on days noted below or as part of specially scheduled E-Recycling/Shredding Days.

Items eligible for curbside pickup can be brought to the DMF Yard but NO PLASTIC BAGS.
 
Residents bringing material to the DMF yard must display their dumping permit on their vehicle or dumping will not be permitted.  Permits may be purchased from the Township Clerk at 350 Hudson Avenue, Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 
 
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS including paint cans, oil containers, and propane tanks must be brought to Bergen Community College, 400 Paramus Road, Paramus, on Sunday – April 17, Sunday – June 26, and Sunday – October 16.  If there are any questions you can call the BCUA Environmental Program Hotline: 201-807-5825.

 The Bergen County Utilities Authority operates a Computer and Electronics Recycling Depot for all BERGEN COUNTY residents.  The Recycling Depot is open Monday to Friday between 8:00am and Noon.  Materials are accepted by appointment only.  Please contact the Recycle Hotline at 201-807-5825 to schedule an appointment or for more information.For more information go to: www.bcua.org

2016 LEAF COLLECTION SCHEDULE
BEGINS NOVEMBER
 
Under New Jersey’s Recycling Law, leaves must be composted.  The Township’s composting facility will only accept bulk leaves, free of debris and branches.  Residents are requested to place leaves at the curb for collection by the Township’s equipment n accordance with the ZONES and DATES below.  CREWS WILL WORK FROM WEST TO EAST IN EACH ZONE.  A second pass of each zone shall start after the completion of the first collection.  All leaves are to be placed at the curb no later than December 1, 2016.  To insure that you do not miss your scheduled leaf collection, please consult the following schedule and have your leaves at curbside by the dates listed below.  This schedule coordinates with the ZONE MAP linked to each zone below.
 
ZONE 1 – STARTS NOVEMBER
Areas west of Pascack Road, north of East Glen Avenue, and Linwood Avenue. 

 
ZONE 2 – STARTS NOVEMBER
Area north of Washington Avenue, to Wearimus Road, and areas west of and intersecting with Van Emburgh Avenue.  Also Devon Road, Woodfield Road, Strattford Court, Westgate Road, Pine Lake Drive, Melba Way, and Chimney Ridge Court.
 
ZONE 3 – STARTS NOVEMBER
Areas east of the Musquapsink Brook and Washington Lake and South of Washington Avenue.

 
ALL LEAVES ARE TO BE PLACED AT CURB NO LATER THAN DECEMBER 1st
 
*This schedule is only a guide and may be delayed due to inclement weather.  Please be patient*.
 
PLASTIC BAGS AND PAPER BAGS ARE NOT TO BE USED - NO EXCEPTIONS.  If you live on a County Road (Pascack, Washington, Van Emburgh, E. Glen, Linwood, Ridgewood, Wearimus), please put leaves in barrels or brown biodegradable bags.  DO NOT RAKE LEAVES INTO THE STREET.

OTHER MATERIALS SUCH AS DEBRIS, GRASS CLIPPNGS, AND BRANCHES ARE NOT TO BE PLACED WITH LEAVES. 
Leaves and other yard debris may be brought to the DMF Yard on Tuesdays from 7am to 3 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm.  However, leaves being brought to the DMF Yard must be in barrels or biodegradable bags only.  NO PLASTIC BAGS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Residents bringing material to the DMF Yard MUST display a dumping permit.  Permits may be purchased for a $10 fee from the Township Clerk at 350 Hudson Avenue Monday thorugh Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.


REMINDERS:
  • FOR SAFETY REASONS DO NOT PARK VEHICLES ON LEAVES!
  • DO NOT PLACE LEAVES ON OR NEAR FIRE HYDRANTS.
  • KEEP LEAVES AT LEAST 10 FEET AWAY FROM CATCH BASINS AS PER DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION REGULATIONS.
  • LEAVES MAY NOT BE PUT AT CURB OR ALONG STREET LINE MORE THAN SEVEN (7) DAYS PRIOR TO SCHEDULED COLLECTION DATE.
  • LEAVES MIXED WITH BRANCHES OR DEBRIS WILL CLOG THE LEAF MACHINE AND WILL NOT BE PICKED UP ON COUNTY ROADS.
  • CHRISTMAS TREES WILL BE PICKED UP AT THE CURB FROM JANUARY 4 THRU JANUARY 15, 2016.
  • NO CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL LUMBER, TIRES, COMPRESSED CYLINDERS, OR RECYCLABLE ITEMS ARE ACCEPTED AT THE DMF YARD.
  • THE WEEK ENDING SEPTEMBER 18 WAS THE END OF HOUSEHOLD DEBRIS COLLECTION.

There will be no white goods or metal (refrigerators, washers, dryers, water heaters, barbecue grills, air –conditioners, etc.) picked up during leaf collection.  First pickup of white goods and metal will resume after completion of leaf collection. Please call the DMF garage for the scheduled date so your address can be added to the list for white goods and metal pick up. 

NO WHITE GOODS OR METAL GOODS ARE TO BE BROUGHT TO THE DMF YARD.
 
During the months of October through March there is no special pickup of household debris EXCEPT for residents moving in or out of town, subject to the availability of DMF vehicles.  New residents and residents leaving town must call the DMF to inquire about a pickup.

For informaiton on disposing of Hazardous Waste, please call the Bergen County Utilities Authority at 201-807-5825., or visit www.bcua.org.  Examples of some common hazardous waste include:  paints, automotive products and oils, aerosols, pesticides, propane tanks, gas tanks, and flammable materials.  Questions for RECYCLING issues will be addressed by call in Gaeta Recycling at 973-278-6625.
 
PLEASE BE COURTEOUS TO THE LEAF CREWS AND REDUCE SPEED WHEN LEAF COLLECTION EQUIPMENT IS IN SIGHT.
2016 RECYCLING PROGRAM
Glass, aluminum beverage cans, plastic and tin cans will be collected curbside co-mingled (mixed). Co-mingled will consist of the following:  Aluminum Cans (UBC), Tin Cans (Steel, Tin and Bi-Metal Cans), Plastic labeled with numbers 1 through 7, Glass Bottles (Clear, Brown, and Green only), Milk Cartons (gable top cartons), and Aseptic packages (shelf stable juice boxes).  This means that all colors of glass (white, brown, green), aluminum beverage containers, steel cans, and plastic containers can be placed in the same receptacle for collection according to your section on the map. Newspapers and magazine, junk mail and corrugated cardboard will be collected curbside in either brown paper bags or tied twice in 12 inch high bundles (no plastic bags).

PICK UP SCHEDULE - Pascack Road and all areas east and north of Ridgewood Road will be collected on the first (1st) and third (3rd) Friday.  All areas west of Pascack Road and south of Ridgewood Road will be collected on the second (2nd) and fourth (4th) Fridays.  There will be no recycling collection on any fifth (5th) Friday.

Saturday, March 19th, 2016 from 9am – 12pm at Town Hall.
