It is always important to remember to take precautions to stay safe. Here are some reminders for preventing residential burglary from the WTPD

• PET LICENSING - 2019 license renewals were mailed 12/28 and will be issued beginning January 2, 2019. Licenses must be returned by 1/31 to avoid late fees. Rabies vacinations MUST be current through November 1, 2019.

• HABC HCV SECTION 8 WAIT LIST TO OPEN - 1/14 - 1/18/19
The Housing Authority of Bergen County is pleased to announce the opening of the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program wait list. Beginning Monday, January 14, 2019 through Friday, January 18, 2019 the HABC will accept pre-applications. A random selection lottery will be conducted to select 350 applicants to be placed on the wait list. Persons applying must meet all income and eligibility requirements. You must be eighteen (18) years of age or older or be an emancipated minor to apply.  Click here for all information 
• TREE REMOVAL - *PLEASE READ BEFORE ANY WORK IS DONE
If you are planning on removing any trees on your property, please review our town ordinance and complete the Tree Removal Permit Application PRIOR to doing so. 

• 2019 PAPER SHREDDING & E-RECYCLING events will take place on:
Saturday, April 13th, July 20th, & October 19th 9:00 am–12:00 pm in the Municipal Complex Parking Lot. Bring your papers to be shredded and electronic items to be disposed of properly. Electronics included: Computers, Printers, Scanners, Monitors, TV's VHS/DVD players etc.

• NO-KNOCK REGISTRY - Twp of Washington - Bergen County
Residents may register online to be placed on a No-Knock List, pursuant to Ordinance 17-19. By submitting this form, you are indicating you wish to have your address added to the Twp. of Washington's No Knock List of addresses that door-to-door vendors may not visit.  Click here to register online. Please note, cable providers Optimum and Verizon are exempt, If you are/or were a customer within the past two years, they are considered to be performing customer service.wat

RECYCLING RULES REMINDER - Plastic bags are NOT recyclable and may be placed in with your household garbage.  Check with the food stores as some have recycle bins for bags.  You may not put your recyclables in plastic bags, you should put bottles, cans and containers loose in a barrel or bin. Bottles, cans and containers must be rinsed of all food and liquid. Containers with food and liquid residue are considered contamination. Plastic bags are also considered contamination.  We have been advised that we will be charged $175 per ton if the Township’s recycling has contamination. SOUP'R SUNDAY - On Super Bowl Sunday, February 3rd, 2019, GFWC/NJSFWC The Contemporary Woman’s Club of Washington Township will be sponsoring Soup’r Sunday collecting envelopes, boxes and cups of soup (no cans) at the Washington Township Foodtown from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  The soup will be donated to the Westwood / Washington Township Food Bank.  Please support this worthwhile cause.    

HOME DECORATING CONTEST WINNERS - The winners of the Contemporary Woman's club Home Decorating Contest were Steve Sedlak and Betty Grosvenor who reside on Wilson Avenue.  At the club's January meeting, Gloria Switlyk, president of the Contemporary Woman's Club, presented Steve with a 2018 Christmas ornament in commemoration of the occasion. TOWNSHIP TREE DECORATED AT WINTER WONDERLAND 

Special thanks to our 9th grade Girl Scout seniors this year led by troop leader Cristina Taylor Morris for stepping up to the task of decorating the Township's tree this year! The now annual display of Trees of Bergen County at the Winter Wonderland in Van Saun Park is open to all.

CONGRATULATIONS SR FALCONS ON SUPER BOWL WIN!
Congratulations to the players and coaches of the Twp. of Washington Falcon rec football team on winning this year's NNJJFL Super Bowl beating the Hillsdale Hawks 21-7 on Saturday Nov. 17th.

GOLDEN SENIORS Always Looking for New Members Any resident of Washington Township interested in joining The Golden Seniors can come as a guest to a meeting to meet the folks. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays at the Senior Center in Town Hall. If you wish to join, there is an initiation fee of $20 and the annual dues are $10. ADULT HEALTH  & WELLNESS PROGRAM
The Twp of Washington Health Dept. in conjuction with the Health Awareness Regional Porgram of Hackensack UMC invite you to participate in this FREE program led by a registered nurse.  The program takes place at the library on the first Tuesday of the month and at the Jack Woods Senior Center (lower level) on the second Wednesday of the month. RITE AID "Wellness Wednesdays" FOR SENIORSSeniors 65 and older get 20% off almost everything the first Wednesday of every month at Rite Aid! They call it Wellness Wednesday! There is a different theme each month and they give out health related informational papers, coupons and free samples to seniors on Wellness Wednesdays from 10am to 2pm. The Rite Aid pharmacist is always ready to answer any questions, do an immunization evaluation or go over a patients medication especially on Wellness Wednesdays!

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY PROJECT

REPORT STREETLIGHT OUTAGES - PSE&G customers may report a streetlight by calling 1-800-436-7734. Please note: the pole number (found on the metal tag on pole), street name, nearest cross street, and “in front of address” are needed to help  locate and complete the repair.

The Township has implemented Swiftreach Networks, Inc. as our Emergency Notification service provider. Swift911™ is a system that makes phone calls, sends text messages and emails to registerd users in the event of an emergency or important notification. CAUGHT ON CAMERA:  Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who was captured on video attempting to burglarize a Township home on Wednesday evening (11/21). Around 6:30 p.m., a security camera outside a home on Hampshire Rd in the Twp, captured the male suspect walking up to the front door, looking into the home and then leaving, according to police. To view video click here.

The WTPD urges all residents to be diligent this holiday season by locking their homes, setting alarms, and leaving lights on both inside and outside of their homes as well and reporting any unusual people or activity in the neighborhood.

The Pink Hats Are Back! The Washington Township Police Department has participated in The Pink Hat Campaign for several years, helping to raise donation for Breast Cancer research.  We sell Pink Hats for a minimum donation of $25.00 per hat, which 100% of the proceeds are donated towards Breast Cancer research. Contact P.O. WTFD ICE DRILL

On 1/16/18 Twp. of Washington Fire Department conducted an ice drill on Schlegel Lake.  The Fire Department cut a hole in the ice and lowered a volunteer Fireman.  Several ongoing mock rescues were conducted.  Rescues were conducted by foot and by sled.  Local Boy and Cub Scouts were on hand to observe and learn from the drill.  Click image for photo gallery of event.


Washington Twp. Volunteer Ambulance Corp is Seeking Volunteers to drive its ambulances on weekdays. Volunteer drivers are only required to take two days' worth of driving courses and a few hours of CPR classes. Anyone who is available between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at least one day per week could help. Please consider this great opportunity to help your community and its residents who truly do appreciate it.
