Safety Tips to Prevent Burglaries - Keep Your Cars Locked!

It is always important to remember to take precautions to stay safe. Here are some reminders for preventing residential burglary, from the WTPD

Northeast Side – All residences north of Ridgewood Rd AND east of Pascack Rd including east side of Pascack Rd.  (Previously 1st & 3rd Fridays.)

Friends of Clark Field Beauftification Program

Help the Township of Washington Bloom! Support the Friends of Clark Field - All donations welcome! Donations of $250.00 will purchase a Cherry Tree ( a donor plaque will be posted.) Click on the flyer for more info and a donation form.

 Save the Date! - Bergen County Care Fair - 4/23/17

Bergen County’s first ever Care Fair which will be held on Sunday, April 23rd at the Hilton Hotel at 650 Terrace Avenue in Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. from noon to 5 p.m. The Care Fair will provide a one stop source to help all Bergen County residents cut through the health care and social service system maze. The Care Fair will help residents learn about their options and connect with the right providers and services. It will be a Care Fair for seniors, children, families, veterans, the disabled, people with special needs, those with mental health needs, and those suffering from chronic disease.  Help and guidance will be provided to people of all income levels. Please click on the flyer for more info.

Cradles to Crayons - Beefsteak Benefit For Alex Hammer

At Cradles to Crayons each child is a part of the family.  Alex Hammer is a student at the Emerson locaion and is a full of life 4 year old little boy who was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma (T-LLy). In an effort to assist the family with mounting medical bills, Cradles to Crayons is helping by hosting a beefsteak benefit for them.  Please consider attinging or donating to this benefit.

WT Contemporary Woman's Club to Award Two Scholarships

The Contemporary Woman’s Club of WT will be awarding two $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school students.  Applications will be available in the Guidance Offices of the area high schools on April 1st and must be returned to the Guidance Office by May 1st.  The student can attend any area high school but must be a resident of the Township of Washington.  Awards are based on scholastic achievement, community service and financial need.
WT Golden Seniors to Award Two Scholarships

The Golden Seniors will award two scholarships, $1,000 each, to residents graduating from high school in June. To qualify, applicants must be residents of the Township of Washington, but may attend any school. Upon graduation, the seniors should plan to continue a course of higher education.

The scholarships will be awarded based on scholastic achievement, service to the school and community, and financial need. Applications are available at the Township of Washington Library and the Westwood Regional Jr.-Sr. High School Guidance Office. The deadline for submitting applications is April 19, 2017. Please return completed application to either Township of Washington Library or Westwood Regional Jr.-Sr. High School Guidance Office.

Adult Health & Wellness Program

The Twp of Washington Health Dept. in conjuction with the Health Awareness Regional Porgram of Hackensack UMC invite you to participate in this FREE program led by a registered nurse.  The program takes place at the library on the first Tuesday of the month and at the Jack Woods Senior Center (lower level) on the second Wednesday of the month. Seeking Volunteers

The Twp.of Washington is organizing a new Green Team to work towards making our town a more sustainable and environmentally aware community. The Green Team will follow the guidelines of Sustainable Jersey and offer our town venues for obtaining energy grants, improving recycling efforts, reducing our carbon footprint and hosting events.  Any interested resident is welcome to find out more about our mission or join our team by emailing Bernadette Pomykala or calling 201-664-4404. First meeting will be scheduled for mid February.

Rite Aid "Wellness Wednesdays" for Seniors

Seniors 65 and older get 20% off almost everything the first Wednesday of every month at Rite Aid! They call it Wellness Wednesday! There is a different theme each month and they give out health related informational papers, coupons and free samples to seniors on Wellness Wednesdays from 10am to 2pm. The Rite Aid pharmacist is always ready to answer any questions, do an immunization evaluation or go over a patients medication especially on Wellness Wednesdays!

It increases the supply of safe, suitable and affordable housing for low-income Bergen County Residents. This program is designed to assist owners / occupants of one- and two-family homes in making necessary repairs to their homes. Bergen County Residents Invited and Encouraged to Attend Bergen County Parks Master Plan Community Information Sessions

Bergen County and the Rutgers Center for Environmental Sustainability (CUES) are working together developing the first comprehensive master plan for the Bergen County Parks System.  With nearly 10,000 acres of open space and recreational facilities, the Bergen County Parks System needs a formal plan to guide the preservation and management of existing parks while outlining priorities for the future. WT CERT serves at Relay for Life

Members of the first Washington Twp Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) completed their first assignment: Assist at the Pascack Valley Relay for Life event, held May 14 and 15 at Westwood Regional Jr./Sr. High School.  The CERT volunteers assisted both the WTPD and the Relay for Life staff. The CERT volunteers helped with pedestrian safety, traffic flow and monitoring the event as the “eyes and ears” of Relay staff and the police department. They were joined by CERT volunteers from River Vale, Maywood and Bergenfield.  Click here full press release.

•"PINK HATS" Available at Police Department

The township police department is participating in PBA 206's "Pink Hat Project" to raise funds for breast cancer research. Pink versions of the department's regulation cap are being sold for $25. Hats can be purchased at the department's headquarters. The entire purchase price of each hat will go directly toward cancer research.
Township Officer Struck by Vehicle 

In the early morning hours of July 20th, 2013 Officer Heather Castronova was struck by a dark colored SUV on Fern St. while issuing a parking summons.  The vehicle left the scene of the accident, continuing North making a right onto Washington Ave. heading  towards Westwood. This vehicle may have damage to the right front area. The PBA is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person involved. Anyone with knowledge of this incident is requested to call 201-664-1140, ext. 169.

Washington Twp. Volunteer Ambulance Corp is Seeking Volunteers to drive its ambulances on weekdays. Volunteer drivers are only required to take two days' worth of driving courses and a few hours of CPR classes. Anyone who is available between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at least one day per week could help. Please consider this great opportunity to help your community and its residents who truly do appreciate it. Anyone interested in joining the Washington Township Ambulance Corps should call (201) 664-3784.
