ECOLOGY FACILITY PERMIT FORM - (DPW Yard Sticker) - Residents bringing material to the DPW yard must display their dumping permit on their vehicle or dumping will not be permitted. *Permits may be obtained from the Township Clerk at 350 Hudson Ave. on the 2nd Fl (Since town hall is closed to residents at this time, you may mail in your form or drop it off in the drop box outside of town hall - the clerks office will contact you for pick up.)

Yard drop off hours: SATURDAYS - 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM & TUESDAYS - 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
*The Yard will close prior to 1:00 or 3:00 P.M. if the truck is full
Anyone depositing debris at the yard must be able to bring those items to the truck/compactor without the assistance of DPW employees who are present to run the equipment and maintain an orderly flow of vehicles only. Due to the current social distancing order in place, please adhere to the following guidlines:
- Please wear a protective face covering (mask)
- Monitor social distancing guidelines maintaining at 6 ft of space between yourself and others
- Drop off items as expeditiously as possible and depart from the premise promptly
- As always, you must have an ecology permit in order to utilize facility
- Have your permit ready to display or on your vehicle in an easily readable location
- If possible, we ask that you leave garden debris for curbside collection
- No oversize loads, please be considerate of your neighbors as many have items to dispose of
- Please be patient and courteous to our DPW employees and each other
The Township of Washington does not collect your regular household garbage. You must make arrangements with a waste hauler licensed by the State of New Jersey. Please call the number listed above to arrange directly for pick-up of your household trash and to obtain updates on pricing and bag options. 2020 HOUSEHOLD (BULK) AND GARDEN DEBRIS COLLECTION PROGRAM
GRASS COLLECTION APRIL 6 - OCT 23 / HOUSEHOLD (BULK) COLLECTION
The Township is pleased to provide a collection program for grass, garden, and household debris (a.ka. bulk pick up) for residents through curbside collection and by drop off to the DPW YARD as reflected below. It does not include garbage, recyclable materials, electronics and hazardous materials.
CURBSIDE GRASS & GARDEN DEBRIS – EVERY WEEK
GRASS & GARDEN DEBRIS will be picked up at the curb each week on your designated day based on what zone you live in (click here and click each zone to view the corresponding zone maps). All material must be in biodegradable bags or in covered containers no larger than 32 gallons. Containers cannot weigh more than 50 lbs. NO boxes, plastic boxes, containers without a lid, or plastic containers exceeding 50 lbs. may be used.
BRANCHES & LIMBS up to 4 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length in bundles should be neatly stacked and tied. NO LOGS. To find out your pick up day, please click on each Zone to view the corresponding map in the chart below.

HOUSEHOLD DEBRIS (BULK) will be picked up at the curb once a month on your designated date based on the zone schedule below. NO construction materials, household trash, electronics, recyclables or hazardous materials may be placed at the curb. WHITE GOODS i.e. Refrigerators, Freezers, Washers, Dryers, (doors removed), Water Heaters, BBQ Grills, Air Conditioners, etc. will be picked by appointment. Please call the DMF at 201-664-3268 to schedule curbside pick up if you have a white good item to be picked up.

Items eligible for curbside pickup can be brought to the DPW Yard but NO PLASTIC BAGS. Residents bringing material to the DPW yard must display their dumping permit on their vehicle or dumping will not be permitted. HAZARDOUS MATERIALS including paint cans, oil containers, and propane tanks must be brought to Bergen Community College, 400 Paramus Road, Paramus. If there are any questions, you can call the BCUA Environmental Program Hotline: 201-807-5825.
ELECTRONICS MUST BE RECYCLED AND CANNOT BE PUT IN THE GARBAGE
The Bergen County Utilities Authority operates a Computer and Electronics Recycling Depot for all BERGEN COUNTY residents. The Recycling Depot is open Monday to Friday between 8:00am and Noon. Materials are accepted by appointment only. Please contact the Recycle Hotline at 201-807-5825 to schedule an appointment or for more information.For more information go to: www.bcua.org
Glass, aluminum beverage cans, plastic and tin cans will be collected curbside co-mingled (mixed). Co-mingled will consist of the following: Aluminum Cans (UBC), Tin Cans (Steel, Tin and Bi-Metal Cans), Plastic labeled with numbers 1 through 7, Glass Bottles (Clear, Brown, and Green only), Milk Cartons (gable top cartons), and Aseptic packages (shelf stable juice boxes). This means that all colors of glass (white, brown, green), aluminum beverage containers, steel cans, and plastic containers can be placed in the same receptacle for collection according to your section on the map. Newspapers and magazine, junk mail and corrugated cardboard will be collected curbside in either brown paper bags or tied twice in 12 inch high bundles (NO plastic bags). Questions for RECYCLING issues will be addressed by calling Buldo Sanitation at 201-666-8298.
PICK UP SCHEDULE - We recycle every other week on Wednesdays. Recycling is picked up by Buldo Sanitation who can be reached at 201-666-8298. The Township Calendar will indicate the recycling days for the Northeast and Northwest/South Sides of Town. Northeast Side - All residences north of Ridgewood Rd AND east of Pascack Rd including the east side of Pascack Road. Northwest/South Side– All residences in other parts of Town. 2020 RECYCLING PROGRAM
NEW - STYROFOAM RECYCLING COLLECTION BIN - The Township of Washington Green Team is starting a new Styrofoam recycling program begining Saturday, December 14th. Our Department of Public Works will now accept EPS foam sheets, coolers and packaging to be recycled during regular operating hours. (Saturdays 9:00 AM-1:00 PM and Tuesdays 7:00 AM-3:00 PM) This program is open to all Township residents (non commercial) for drop off at the DMF yard by ecology permit (DMF sticker) only. This program was funded by a Grant from the State. Please click here for futher information on the types of acceptable styrofoam.
The BCUA’s April 26th & June 6 Computer / Electronic collection events scheduled for Bergen Community College have been cancelled.
Until further notice, the BCUA has suspended its electronics recycling program and composter sales at its Little Ferry/Moonachie facility
2020 BCUA Househould Hazardous Waste Collection Schedule
The Bergen County Utilities Authority (BCUA) will once again conduct eight household hazardous waste collection events in 2020 throughout the county. Collections are Free for Bergen County Residents - ID is required. Household hazardous waste will be accepted from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM, (rain or shine) at the following centrally located areas:

2020 LEAF COLLECTION SCHEDULE
BEGINS NOVEMBER 2, 2020
(There is no pick up of white goods during leaf collection.)
Under New Jersey’s Recycling Law, leaves must be composted. The Township’s composting facility will only accept bulk leaves, free of debris and branches. Residents are requested to place leaves at the curb for collection by the Township’s equipment in accordance with the ZONES and DATES below. CREWS WILL WORK FROM WEST TO EAST IN EACH ZONE. A second pass of each zone shall start after the completion of the first collection. All leaves are to be placed at the curb no later than December 6, 2020. To insure that you do not miss your scheduled leaf collection, please consult the following schedule and have your leaves at curbside by the dates listed below.
ZONE 1 – STARTS NOVEMBER 2
Areas west of Pascack Road, north of East Glen Avenue, and Linwood Avenue.
ZONE 2 – STARTS NOVEMBER 9
Area north of Washington Avenue, to Wearimus Road, and areas west of and intersecting with Van Emburgh Avenue. Also Devon Rd., Woodfield Rd., Strattford Court, Westgate Rd., Pine Lake Dr., Melba Way, and Chimney Ridge Court.
ZONE 3 – STARTS NOVEMBER 16
Areas east of the Musquapsink Brook and Washington Lake and South of Washington Avenue.
ALL LEAVES ARE TO BE PLACED AT CURB NO LATER THAN DECEMBER 8th
*This schedule is only a guide and may be delayed due to inclement weather. Please be patient*.
DO NOT RAKE LEAVES INTO THE STREET. If you live on a County Road (Pascack, Washington, Van Emburgh, E. Glen, Linwood, Ridgewood, Wearimus), please put leaves in barrels or brown biodegradable bags. PLASTIC BAGS AND PAPER BAGS ARE NOT TO BE USED - NO EXCEPTIONS.
OTHER MATERIALS SUCH AS DEBRIS, GRASS CLIPPNGS, AND BRANCHES ARE NOT TO BE PLACED WITH LEAVES. Leaves and other yard debris may be brought to the DMF Yard on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. However, leaves being brought to the DMF Yard must be in barrels or biodegradable bags only. NO PLASTIC BAGS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
*During leaf collection season, the DMF yard will be closed Tuesday but remain open on Saturday
Residents bringing material to the DPW Yard MUST display a dumping permit (a.k.a.Ecology facility permit form) Permits may be purchased for a $10 fee from the Township Clerk at 350 Hudson Avenue Monday thorugh Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Click here for form.
- FOR SAFETY REASONS DO NOT PARK VEHICLES ON LEAVES!
- DO NOT PLACE LEAVES ON OR NEAR FIRE HYDRANTS.
- KEEP LEAVES AT LEAST 10 FEET AWAY FROM CATCH BASINS AS PER DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION REGULATIONS.
- LEAVES MAY NOT BE PUT AT CURB OR ALONG STREET LINE MORE THAN SEVEN (7) DAYS PRIOR TO SCHEDULED COLLECTION DATE.
- LEAVES MIXED WITH BRANCHES OR DEBRIS WILL CLOG THE LEAF MACHINE AND WILL NOT BE PICKED UP ON COUNTY ROADS.
- CHRISTMAS TREES WILL BE PICKED UP AT THE CURB STARTING JANUARY 7 AND WILL LAST ABOUT 2 WEEKS. THERE IS NO SET SCHEDULE PICKUP.
- NO CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL LUMBER, TIRES, COMPRESSED CYLINDERS, OR RECYCLABLE ITEMS ARE ACCEPTED AT THE DMF YARD.
- THE WEEK ENDING SEPTEMBER 13 WAS THE END OF HOUSEHOLD DEBRIS COLLECTION.

ELECTRONICS CANNOT BE PUT IN THE GARBAGE
The BCUA operates a NJDEP approved Computer and Electronics Recycling Depot for all Bergen County residents located at the foot of Empire Blvd. in Moonochie, NJ. All types of computer and electronic equipment are collected for recycling. The Computer and Electronics Recycling Depot is open Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. Contact the BCUA Environmental Programs Hotline at 201 807- 8525 for more information.
There will be no white goods or metal (refrigerators, washers, dryers, water heaters, barbecue grills, air –conditioners, etc.) picked up during leaf collection. First pickup of white goods and metal will resume after completion of leaf collection. Please call the DPW garage for the scheduled date so your address can be added to the list for white goods and metal pick up.
NO WHITE GOODS OR METAL GOODS ARE TO BE BROUGHT TO THE DPW YARD.
During the months of October through March there is no special pickup of household debris EXCEPT for residents moving in or out of town, subject to the availability of DPW vehicles. New residents and residents leaving town must call the DPW to inquire about a pickup.
